Class times?

  • Full Time - Monday to Friday - 9am to 2:30pm
  • Part time - Monday to Friday - 9 to 11:30 or 12:30 to 2:30pm
  • Part time evenings - 6pm to 9pm

 

Eligibility

The Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program serves adult learners:

  • who are Ontario residents;
  • whose literacy and basic skills are assessed at intake as being less than the end of Level 3 of the International Adult Literacy and Skills Survey (IALSS) or the OALCF;
  • who are at least 19 years old.  On an exception only basis, LBS service providers may serve young adults between ages 16 to 18 who demonstrate the maturity to benefit from adult education. However, returning to the regular school system should be the priority for these learners; and who are proficient enough in speaking and listening to benefit fully from the language of LBS instruction (English or French). This eligibility requirement does not apply to Deaf learners.

How long do I have to wait to register into class? Typically, an assessment and registration will be booked within a week.  Once the first step is complete, you will be placed into a class the following week, unless there is a waiting list.

 

Is there a fee to attend class?  The upgrading classes are free to all eligible Ontario residents. There is a paper fee of $20 for all Employment Readiness classes.

 

How long will I be in the upgrading class?  Each student enters the program with their own training plan. Depending on how you assess, you may be in our upgrading program for a few weeks or you may require a few months of upgrading to achieve success in your goal path.

 

Do I have to attend full time?  Class times are flexible.  Some students attend full time, while others choose to attend on a part time basis.  We also have night classes to accommodate those who cannot access our day program.

 Registration

 

Step 1:  Book an appointment for assessment with Melissa Friske @ 432-3156

             Assessments take place in:

             Pembroke every Monday

             Petawawa every second Wednesday

             Arnprior every second Thursday

             Renfrew every Tuesday or Friday

 

Step 2:  Bring:   a proof of address

                     a transcript, if you have one

 

Step 3:  No letters of entrance will be issued until a student has attended 1 week of

             class or by request of caseworker.
